Prayer is like breathing: without it, we die.
WELCOME to our prayer section. Here we'll be offering some prayers that you can use, resources to help you pray and suggestions of people and things to pray for. If you would like us to pray for you or want to suggest other ideas for prayer, please contact us.

Discovering Prayer is a series of articles written by Sue, with new articles being added around halfway through each month:

  4. A Few Suggestions to Help You Pray

Two Prayers | Monthly Prayer Diary

The Living God's Love Prayer
The Diocese of St Albans is encouraging churches and individuals to use this prayer to help us not only talk about God's love but to live it:

Living God,
draw us deeper into your love;
Jesus our Lord,
send us to care and serve;
Holy Spirit,
make us heralds of good news.
Stir us, strengthen us,
teach and inspire us
to live your love
with generosity and joy,
imagination and courage;
for the sake of your world
and in the name of Jesus,

The Lord's Prayer
The Lord's Prayer is a prayer that Jesus taught his disciples. You can say it as it is or use it as a pattern for your own prayers. This is the version we use in church; see further down for a modern English version.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done;
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.

The Lord's Prayer: Modern English version

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name;
your Kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread;
forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil,
for the kingdom, the power
and the glory are yours,
now and for ever.
