WELCOME to the St Andrew's 2014 news archives, where you'll find details of events that took place in 2014, most recent first. For latest news, please see our current news page.
A massive thank you to everyone at St Andrew's who helped to decorate the church for this year's Harvest Festival: the displays of flowers and produce were — as always — magnificent, as shown in the photographs below, courtesy of Jim Dickson. The service was followed by a superb Harvest Lunch in the Church Hall organised by John Searle and Shirley Morley. Thank you to everyone who helped in whatever capacity and thanks be to God for such a bountiful harvest!
The Celebrate 100 Icon, pictured opposite, which commemorates the centenary of the Diocese of St Albans this year, arrived in Langford yesterday morning in time for Morning Prayer at 9am. The icon was delivered by the Revd Guy Scott, Vicar of St Andrew's, Biggleswade, and accepted by the Revd Canon Sue Groom during a brief service of welcome.
The icon then remained on display in the Lady Chapel here at St Andrew's, Langford, before continuing its journey around the diocese to St Mary's, Henlow, this morning.

Thank you to everyone in Langford whose generosity during Christian Aid Week 2014 saw this year's house-to-house collections bring in a total of £1714.20, an increase on last year's £1,560.81.
Added to the amounts contributed via the Lent Appeal collection boxes (£205.75) and the Christian Aid combined Anglican/Methodist service which launched the week (£70.47), this gives us a Grand Total of £1,990.42 for the period 1st June 2013 to 14th June 2014 (subject to final audit).
As always, special thanks are due to the team of volunteers who delivered and collected the envelopes and to the Langford Christian Aid Committee who co-ordinated activities with local church leaders. All donations are sent directly to Christian Aid head office with no local deductions.
Following the success of the Pilgrim Course in January/February, we're running two more courses after Easter to help us find out more about the Christian faith:
1. A Turning Point?
This group is for those who want the chance to think more about the Christian faith; those who have recently started to come to Church; those preparing for Confirmation; and those who have been Christians for many years and want to visit the roots of their faith again.
Each session lasts no more than 90 minutes.
For more information and to register an interest, please contact Revd Canon Sue Groom or Revd Patsy Critchley.
This course ran earlier this year with 12 participants who all enjoyed it and enthused about it!
Interested? Please contact Revd Canon Sue Groom.
Bishop Alan of St Albans is coming to Langford on Tuesday 8th July at 7.30pm. Please speak to Sue or Patsy if you are interested in being confirmed or in affirming your faith.
The Churchwardens of St Andrew's and St Mary's Churches are delighted to announce that the Revd Sue Groom, Priest in Charge of The United Benefice of Henlow and Langford and Diocesan Director of Ordinands, has accepted an invitation from the Rt Revd Alan Smith, Bishop of St Albans, to become an Honorary Canon of the Cathedral and Abbey Church of St Alban in recognition of her services to the Diocese.
An official ceremony for Revd Sue's installation will be held during a service of Evensong at the Cathedral at 4pm on Saturday 8th March 2014. All members of both churches and of the local community are warmly invited to attend.
