THANK YOU to everyone in the local community whose generous response to this year's house-to-house collections saw Christian Aid Week 2013 in Langford bring in £1,560.81.
Taken together with the amounts collected via the Lent Appeal collection boxes (£196.01) and at the Christian Aid combined Anglican/Methodist service which launched the week (£114.98), the money donated gives us a Grand Total of £1,871.80 (subject to final audit and not including Gift Aid, which will be claimed by Christian Aid head office). Although this is less than last year's total (£2,367.21), it is a small increase on 2011's £1,844.50.
Special thanks are due to the small army of volunteers who delivered and collected the envelopes and to the Christian Aid Committee who co-ordinated activities with local church leaders. All monies collected are sent directly to Christian Aid central funds with no deductions.
This year's Summer Fete was held during the afternoon on Saturday 22nd June and a massive thank you is due to all those who took part in so many different ways: organising things behind the scenes; moving furniture; providing refreshments; setting up and running stalls or displays; clearing up afterwards; or simply coming along to join in the fun — whatever it is you did, you made the day! The photos below give a taster of some of the afternoon's events and activities: to see more, visit the Summer Fete Photo Gallery.
Angie Rigney, who has served both St Andrew's and St Mary's as a Lay Reader for many years, has retired and is now a Reader Emeritus. We take this opportunity to thank Angie for all that she has contributed to the life of the Benefice through her preaching and teaching, and we pray that God will bless and keep her in her retirement.
At the end of this morning's service at St Andrew's, the Revd Sue Groom presented Angie with a number of gifts as a token of appreciation from both parishes.
