WELCOME to the St Andrew's 2012 news archives, where you'll find details of events that took place in 2012, most recent first. For latest news, please see our current news page.
Thank you to everyone who responded to this year's Gift Day Appeal, held on Saturday 6th October at the Church Hall. The amount received as of the date of this report, including Gift Aid, totals £4,107.52.
Thanks to the generosity of the local community and the dedication of everyone involved in this year's house-to-house collections, Christian Aid Week 2012 saw more than £2,000 raised here in Langford.
Added to the money collected via the Lent Appeal collection boxes (£171.15) and donations made at the Christian Aid Week service (£95.78), this gives us a Grand Total of £2,367.21, an astonishing 28% increase on last year's total of £1,844.50.
Thank you to everyone who joined the Friends of St Andrew's on Saturday 19th May for an evening's light entertainment as we sang our way through the history of Britain's canals.
Enthusiastically led by the foot-stomping Life and Times talented musical duo Graeme Meek & Barry Goodman, the journey included a brief singalong excursion down our own local waterway, the Ivel Navigation. The good news is that no one fell in and the evening raised a further £253 for church funds, bringing the total raised by the Friends since our first event in May 2011 to £2,408.54.
Particular thanks to Jim Dickson, Friends Chairman, for organising the evening and taking photographs; to those who arranged refreshments during the interval; and last but not least, of course, to Graeme, Barry and their support crew.
Thank you to everyone who gave so generously towards last year's Gift Day appeal for funds towards the resurfacing of the footpath from the car park to the church. The amount donated was £4,110.51 with a further £897.50 reclaimed via gift aid, giving us a grand total of £5,008.01.
The work, pictured below, is now well underway and, weather permitting, should be completed this month. Whilst work is in progress, access to the churchyard is via the entrance at the junction of Church Street and Mill Lane.
We are very sad to have to report that Mary Jennings died peacefully in her sleep at St John's Hospice, Moggerhanger, on Wednesday morning, 15th February 2012. As well as serving two terms as churchwarden at St Andrew's, Mary was a very practical Christian who was forever working acts of kindness for everyone she knew. Only last week she was doing things for other people and so her death seems to have come very suddenly. There will be a Celebration of Mary's Life at St Andrew's Church on Mon 5th March at 2.45pm. Please pray for her husband Peter and all who knew her.
Donations may be made in memory of Mary for Macmillan Cancer Care and may be sent c/o Neville Funeral Service (Inc. George Squire & Sons), 24 Clifton Road, Shefford, Beds SG17 5AE.
